Nottingham Forest have confirmed that youngster Tyrese Fornah has signed a new deal that will keep him at the City Ground until the summer of 2022.

The midfielder joined the Reds last year and whilst he hasn't managed to force his way into the first-team yet, he has been a key performer for the U23 side.

Those displays have caught the eye of boss Sabri Lamouchi, with Fornah regularly involved with the senior group in training.

Therefore, it was announced that the Reds had moved to keep hold of the 20-year-old and they confirmed the news of his extension on their official site this evening.

Of course, the challenge for the player now will be to continue to impress and eventually get some minutes in the Championship, with Lamouchi proving that he isn't afraid to give the younger players a chance since taking over.

Forest are currently fifth in the second-tier, although they have failed to win in their previous three games ahead of a weekend fixture against Sheffield Wednesday at home.

The verdict

This is good news for Forest and it makes total sense that they have acted quickly to tie down a player with plenty of potential.

The news will have delighted Fornah but he needs to ensure that he continues to work hard and to impress as he tries to get into the team moving forward.

That's a big challenge but key figures at the club clearly think he can make a mark in the years to come.
