Nottingham Forest have confirmed that they have agreed a 250-year lease which will allow them to start work on redeveloping the City Ground.

The Reds announced that an agreement had been reached with Nottingham City Council to ensure that the club would remain at their iconic ground for the long-term and enable work to be done on improving the venue.

Plans were revealed earlier this year by the club, which stated that they wanted to build a 'new, modern, state-of-the-art structure' which would hold up to 38,000 fans.

And, they can now be put into place after the lease was sorted and it will be the first major redevelopment work on the ground in over 25 years.

Nottingham Forest Chairman, Nicholas Randall QC outlined why those connected to the club were so happy with this decision when speaking to the official site.

"When we announced our plans for the redevelopment of the stadium, we recognised the importance to remain at our iconic home.

"We understand what it means not only to our supporters but also for the people of the City and we are now delighted to have secured our lease for a further 250 years."

The Verdict

This is fantastic news for Nottingham Forest as the previous plans were very impressive and they can now begin putting them into place.

Fans will love the ambition of the club and they will be equally pleased that they will be staying at their historic home as we've seen far too many clubs move away from old grounds despite the history.

The challenge for the team is to ensure they are playing Premier League football at the new ground once the work is done.
