Nottingham Forest have completed their eighth new signing of the summer with the addition of midfielder Samba Sow from Dynamo Moscow.

The 30-year-old joins from the Russian club for an undisclosed fee and has signed a two-year deal at The City Ground.

Sow joined Dynamo Moscow in 2017 but reportedly struggled to settle at the club and has been a bit-part player, making 43 appearances.

The defensive midfielder made just 18 appearances last season and had to endure a spell on the sidelines due to a hip injury.

Prior to his move to Russia, Sow spent time with Turkish sides Kayserispor, Kardemir Karabukspor, and French side RC Lens.

The six-foot-two midfielder has also regularly featured for the Mali national side, making 42 appearances and scoring twice for his home country.

The Reds begin their Championship campaign against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and it will be interesting to see whether Sabri Lamouchi will involve the 30-year-old.

Forest will surely be looking to push for promotion in the 2019/20 campaign under their new boss.

The Frenchman joined in June after the sacking of Martin O’Neill and has been busy in the transfer market, making five permanent signings and bringing in three players on loan from top-flight clubs.

The Verdict

This could be a great signing for Forest.

The Mali international is a big, physical midfielder who will provide a much-needed presence in the centre of the park for the Reds.

Following his struggles in Russia, Forest fans will be hoping that Sow settles well in Nottingham and can translate that into on-pitch performances.

He seems to have the physicality needed for the Championship but it will be interesting to see how well the rest of his game is suited.
