Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal to bring Michael Dawson back to the City Ground with the Hull skipper out of contract this summer, according to HITC.

The experienced defender wanted to join Forest in January but the Tigers blocked the transfer, but they won't be able to stand in his way now.

Despite offering him a new deal to stay at the KCOM stadium, Dawson is set to be a free agent and HITC report that Forest are set to re-sign him 13 years after he left.

They reveal that the Reds continued to monitor Dawson after January and believe he is keen on coming back to the club.

Should this go through it's likely to be one of many new faces at Forest this summer as manager Aitor Karanka looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

The former Middlesbrough boss arrived at the East Midlands club in January but struggled to change the side's fortunes in his first few months in charge.

The Verdict

This would be a good signing for Forest as Dawson has a storng mentality and is the type of leader they need at the back.

He will bring a lot to the club off the pitch but he will still have a role to play on it. He managed 40 games for Hull this season which shows he is still fit and capable despite his age.

For Dawson, it's a great move and the chance to end his career back where it all started will certainly appeal.
