If you believe what you read in the newspapers then it is set to be an exciting summer for those of a Nottingham Forest persuasion, with boss Aitor Karanka apparently set to be handed a hefty transfer budget in order to mount a serious challenge on winning promotion to the Premier League.

Of course, the Sky Bet Championship isn't quite as simple as throwing bucket loads of money at several stellar players and simply expecting to win promotion and the Forest manager must choose to spend his bounty of cash wisely.

Whilst stellar signings aren't going to guarantee promotion, it is safe to say that one or two would certainly enhance Forest's push towards the top flight and Karanka would be wise to go and raid a former club of his for one of his summer recruits.

Central midfielder Adam Clayton was an integral part of the Middlesbrough side that won promotion to the Premier League under Karanka back during the 2015/16 campaign and his arrival at Forest would give the Reds a massive boost.

The 29-year-old was in and out of the Boro side that reached the play-off semi-final this season and although he featured for boss Tony Pulis regularly at the end of the campaign, it does remain to be seen whether or not he features in his long-term plans.

A Forest midfield of Clayton and Ben Watson really would get the juices going for the club's supporters and it has to be said that the partnership would give Karanka one of the division's very best partnerships pulling the strings in the middle of the park.

Nottingham Forest fans, would you welcome Adam Clayton at the City Ground? Let us know in the comments below!!!
