Nottingham Forest, along with Preston North End, Luton Town and Barnsley are all interested in signing Gillingham midfielder Kyle Dempsey, according to Football Insider.

Dempsey only joined the Gills from Fleetwood Town last summer, but has made a significant impression at Priestfield - scoring four goals in 20 games in all competitions, including the winner in Gillingham's recent win at Accrington Stanley.

The Gills captain made the switch to the Kent outfit on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Highbury, but could be on the move once again - with Football Insider reporting that a host of Championship sides are keen on signing the 25-year-old before the window closes.

Dempsey started his career with Carlisle United, although the midfielder has previous experience in the Championship during a two-year spell with Huddersfield Town, although the majority of his career has been spent in Lancashire with Fleetwood before his summer exit.

The Verdict

Dempsey probably didn't expect to be attracting so much second-tier interest less than six months after leaving his previous club, but it only echoes his performance levels this season.

Whilst it would be a major blow for Gillingham to not only possibly lose their captain and one of their best players, but with Dempsey having only joined last summer, any of these Championship sides are going to have to pay a considerable fee to secure the services of the midfielder.

But with less than two weeks until the window closes, it'll be interested to see how this pans out.
