Nottingham Forest forward Nuno da Costa has been linked with a move to SM Caen, as per Ouest-France journalist Guillaume Lainé.

The 30-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the City Ground since joining Forest from Strasbourg in January 2020, and is currently out injured.

The attacker has made only 14 appearances for the Reds and has featured only once under Chris Hughton, coming on as a late substitute against Bradford in the Carabao Cup this season.

Last season, da Costa spent the campaign on loan in Belgium with Royal Excel Mouscron, scoring six goals in 25 games for the club.

But another loan move could now be in the offing for the Cape Verdean forward, with SM Caen showing an interest in a swoop.

Da Costa still has two years left on his deal at the City Ground, but Mouscron chose not to activate their option to make the move permanent last season, and it remains to be seen whether a similar option is added to this potential deal.

The Verdict

I can't see da Costa playing a part under Hughton this season, and he needs to leave for his own good.

Lyle Taylor and Lewis Grabban are ahead of him in the pecking order, and the club are expected to be in for another attacker before tomorrow's deadline.

It just hasn't worked out for da Costa since he made the move to Forest. He's struggled for form and just hasn't been able to work his way into the manager's plans.
