Nottingham Forest may well be flying high at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table, but the Reds are expected to add fresh faces to their squad in the January transfer window.

Sabri Lamouchi's side have made a hugely impressive start to the season, losing only one game so far and sitting level on points at the top of the table with West Bromwich Albion.

But despite their magnificent position in the league standings, Lamouchi is expected to bolster his squad with new faces in the winter, with TEAMtalk claiming that a midfielder could be set to sign for the Reds.

Reports claim that French midfielder Ilyas El Khabchi is set to be given a deal until the end of the season at the City Ground, after being scouted whilst playing in the fifth tier of French football.

According to reports, the attacking midfielder is set to be tested out in Forest's under-23 side before being thrown straight into the first-team, as Lamouchi looks to run the rule over the 21-year-old.

If this is to be the case, then it should spell the end of Zach Clough's time on Trentside.

The midfielder, somewhat surprisingly, failed to complete a move away from the City Ground in the summer transfer window, despite being completely out-of-favour and frozen out under Lamouchi.

The attacking midfielder featured for Forest's under-23 side against Sheffield United in midweek, and even though he put in a decent display, El Khabchi's arrival could see his game-time become limited.

It has turned out to be a frustrating time at the City Ground, who arrived at Forest from Bolton Wanderers in January 2017.

Despite being a regular goalscorer for the Trotters, Clough, who has been turned into a number 10 during his time with the Reds, has made just 13 league starts for Forest, scoring four goals in a total of 31 appearances.

With the likes of Joao Carvalho and Tiago Silva way, way ahead of him in the pecking order at the City Ground, it will be practically impossible for Clough to break into the first-team anytime soon.

And with El Khabchi set to arrive on Trentside, this suggests that Lamouchi's focus is elsewhere, and he's set to focus on developing the Frenchman as a player.

This should be the final straw for Clough, and the January transfer window needs to come quicker than ever for him, as he looks to make a move away from the City Ground.
