Nottingham Forest have announced that arrival of Kyriakos Dourekas as Director of Football at the City Ground, according to the BBC.

Dourekas arrives in the East Midlands on the back of 25 years experience working with Olympiakos, the Greek side owned by Forest majority shareholder Evangelos Marinakis.

He has previously worked with a number of high profile bosses at the biggest club in Greek football, but he's now looking to bring that experience and knowledge to the English second tier.

His appointment satisfies the need to replace the outgoing Luke Dowling, the previous holder of the role, who joined West Brom as Sporting Director earlier in the season.

Forest are currently hunting  place in the Premier League, they're fifth in the Championship after 20 games and have seemingly found their feet under Aitor Karanka.

They've made the new appointment at just the right time, as Dourekas will have a critical role to play through January as Karanka moves for his favoured targets in a bid to cement a place in the top six, or maybe even the top two.

The Verdict

Nottingham Forest have been incredibly active in the transfer market, which makes this appointment even more crucial. Karanka will identify a target and leave the rest to the suits, with him concentrating on the playing side of things.

Dourekas will also strengthen the grip of Marinakis on the club, seemingly he's a right hand man of the shipping magnate and a key part of the Olympiakos success.

If he's part of a team that take Forest into Europe at some stage, he'll be deemed a roaring success.
