Nottingham Forest are considering moving for Rob Hunt this summer, with the Oldham Athletic defender attracting plenty of interest.

According to a report from HITC, Hunt is attracting plenty of interest this summer, after an impressive year with Oldham in League One.

The versatile defender joined Oldham permanently last summer after an impressive loan spell during the 2016/17 campaign, with the 22-year-old pushing on in the last 12 months.

Hunt has made 47 appearances for Oldham during his 18-month stay at Boundary Park, with 37 of those appearances coming during the 2017/18 campaign.

However, the 22-year-old, who can operate at both right and left back, was unable to prevent Oldham slipping into the fourth-tier last season.

Following Oldham’s relegation, Nottingham Forest are ready to swoop, with Aitor Karanka eyeing a move for Hunt, who came through the ranks at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Forest are joined in the race to sign Hunt by Wigan Athletic, who are preparing for life back in the Championship, having won the League One title last season.

The HITC report suggests that Oldham face an uphill battle to retain Hunt’s service, with the defender’s release clause at just £300,000.

The Verdict

Despite a difficult year for Oldham, Hunt’s reputation is continuing to grow.

At 22, the defender has his best ahead of him, and with a £300k release clause quoted, he would be fairly risk free for both Forest and Wigan.

The versatility that Hunt would bring would undoubtedly be a benefit to both Forest and Wigan.
