Nottingham Forest and Norwich City are among a host of clubs interested in signing Zulte Waregem defender Marko Burki, according to Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, via Estadio Deportivo.

The 25-year old has been a standout performer for Waregem this season, and is now attracting a host of high-profile clubs from across Europe after a string of impressive displays in defence.

The centre-half, who can also play as a left-back, has made just 24 appearances for the Belgian club since joining from Thun last summer, after coming through the ranks at Swiss side Young Boys.

Reports claim that Nottingham Forest, Norwich City, Leganes and Torino are all keen admirers of the defender, who could be available for a cut-price of around €800,000 in the summer.

Nottingham Forest have plenty of defenders on their books, with Jack Robinson, Yohan Benalouane and Alex Milosevic all proving to be key players under Martin O'Neill.

Norwich, who will be preparing for life in the Premier League, also have plenty of quality defenders at the club, in Ben Godfrey, Christoph Zimmermann and Timm Klose.

The Verdict

Burki looks to be a very good player on paper and is highly regarded over in Belgium.

€800,000 seems like a very good price for the defender, which makes him a very affordable option for both Nottingham Forest and Norwich City.

To be honest though, I don't see why Forest or Norwich should look to strengthen their defences.

Forest, especially, looked solid with their back three towards the end of the season, and have the likes of Joe Worrall and Michael Dawson waiting in the wings on the bench.
