Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga is a target for both Nottingham Forest and Leeds, according to the Northern Echo.

The report states that the former Forest striker was involved in a bust-up with Tony Pulis and could now be on his way out of the Riverside, with his former club at the head of a queue for his services.

The 25-year old only left the City Ground last summer, joining Boro for a club record £15m, but his stay in the North East now appears to be coming to a premature end.

Leeds are still in the hunt for a striker as their pursuit of Matej Vydra drags on, although Forest recently signed Lewis Grabban as well as Algerian, Hillal Soudani.

The report says that both Birmingham City and Swansea are also interested in the DR Congo international, who made his name at Peterborough United before a £5m move to Forest in 2014.

He scored 15 times for Boro last season, only three of those coming after the turn of the year.

The Verdict

Boro seem to be shooting themselves in the foot here, not only is Assombalonga on his way, but Martin Braithwaite too. Both are quality footballers who would boost any side in the Championship.

Whichever team does benefit from Boro's profligacy will be rubbing their hands with glee, although a move for the former Peterborough man won't come cheap, despite the circumstances.
