Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town are among a host of clubs interested in signing Forest Green Rovers defender Nathan McGinley, according to reports from TEAMtalk.

The 22-year-old signed for the Gloucestershire club from Middlesbrough in the summer, initially on a loan deal, before they made the deal permanent in the January transfer window.

The versatile defender, who can operate as a left-sided centre-half or as a left-back, made 46 appearances in all competitions last season, and played an influential role in guiding Mark Cooper's side to the League Two play-off semi-finals.

And, after a hugely impressive campaign at the New Lawn, it is believed that Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town, Bristol City and Swansea City are all interested in landing the highly-rated defender this summer.

The defender only has one year remaining on his contract at Rovers, therefore the Stroud club could be faced with a difficult decision this summer - whether they look to cash in this summer, or let him leave potentially on a free transfer next year.

The Verdict

McGinley was outstanding for Forest Green last season, and he really impressed me whenever I saw him play.

He is the complete defender - he loves an aerial battle and is so difficult to get past, but he also thrives in Mark Cooper's system where they play out from the back and play with wing-backs.

He would be a very useful option for whoever signs him, and if Terence Kongolo leaves Huddersfield this summer, then McGinley could be a very shrewd replacement indeed.
