Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has confirmed that Jack Marriott wants a move away from London Road, even naming the club which has turned his head.

The 23-year old has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer, with East Midlands rivals Forest and Derby thought to be at the head of the queue for his signature.

Posh owner MacAnthony has now confirmed which of the two he believes the 27-goal striker would prefer a switch to.

"Jack's head's been turned in a big way," he told the Peterborough United website. "If they (Derby) want to back their manager and buy him they know what they've got to do, but I certainly won't be letting him go for where they are at the moment, not a chance."

MacAnthony revealed that once the two clubs agree a fee, he will not stand in the way of his leading scorer departing the club.

"He's told me the figures that have been mentioned and it's life-changing compared to what he's on. Of course he wants to go. We will sell a player, we always have done - we never stand in anyone's way."

Marriott only joined Peterborough a year ago, signing from League Two side Luton Town. He started out as a trainee at Ipswich, but was released in 2015.

The Verdict

The latest interview will put intense pressure on Derby to make a move, which is yet again a clever ploy by the Peterborough chairman. He clearly wants to get the best price for his prized asset.

An honest interview such as this has become something of a trademark from MacAnthony, but it is surely designed to ramp up the pressure on the buying club, especially with the big kick off only two weeks away.
