Nottingham Forest's lawyers are reportedly trying to convince the EFL to approve Kamil Grosicki's loan but the Reds are optimistic that the move will happen despite the forms being submitted 21 seconds late.

Grosicki was linked with the Reds at various points in the summer window but the East Midlands club were unable to get the move completed before last Friday's 5pm deadline for domestic transfers.

Both Forest and the Baggies are now awaiting a decision from the EFL as it is understood that the forms were submitted 21 seconds late on Friday.

According to The Athletic's Steve Madeley, Forest's lawyers are trying to convince the EFL to approve the loan deal.

Madeley claims that they're banking on the vagueness of the rules and hoping that as it was 5pm and not 5.01pm when the forms were submitted, the move will be allowed to happen.

Grosicki would be the Championship club's 15th signing of the summer, a transfer window that also saw manager Sabri Lamouchi replaced with Chris Hughton.

Hughton is trying to get the Reds' season back on track after they lost the first four games of the league season under Lamouchi, and has helped them claim four points in his first two games.

The Verdict

The Grosicki saga has now stretched on for nearly a week but it seems that Forest's chances of signing the Poland international hinge on the EFL using a vague interpretation of the rule.

As the forms were reportedly submitted 21 seconds late, it seems as though the Reds really are at the mercy of the EFL on this one.

Forest missing out on signing a proven Championship weapon like Grosicki due to late paperwork would be a frustrating blow for them, while it is believed Albion could add him to their Premier League squad if it falls through.
