Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has told an Italian newspaper that Nottingham Forest's success when they won back-to-back European Cups is better than Leicester's shock Premier League title this season, according to ESPN.

Back in in the 1976-77 season, Forest were only just promoted to the First Division, before going on and winning the title the next season.

Qualifying for the European Cup, they then won back-to-back trophies on the continent, something which is seemingly impossible today for the world's best, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Leicester, on the other hand, gained promotion in 2013-14 by winning the Championship, before sitting bottom of the league for most of the season.

They became the first team to beat the drop after being bottom on New Year's Day, and went on an incredible run to finish 14th place. Nigel Pearson was sacked due to off-the-field issues, and Ranieri has led them to the richest league title in football.

The Italian told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "People always try to look for something exceptional in sport but I think that, 30-40 years ago, Nottingham Forest did something even greater than what we have done.

"They got promoted from the second division, then they won the First Division title and then won the European Cup twice, so let's just wait a few more years."

The Foxes will be amongst the top seeds in September's Champions League group stage draw by winning the Premier League, and will therefore have the chance to emulate the Reds.

Forest finished 16th place in the Championship this season, amassing 55 points. They will want to push on up the table next term thanks to their transfer ban being lifted.
