Eric Lichaj has admitted Mustapha Carayol has made him look foolish during training this year, insisting the winger could play a vital role in helping Nottingham Forest survive in the Sky Bet Championship, reports the Nottingham Post.

Carayol has found opportunities limited at the City Ground this season, making just 17 appearances in the Championship.

However, Mark Warburton has opted to play Carayol in Forest’s last two fixtures against Cardiff City and Reading.

Warburton’s faith in Carayol was rewarded, when the winger scored the decisive third goal in Forest’s 3-2 victory over Reading last weekend.

Lichaj has now lifted the lid on Carayol’s exploits in training, he said: “He has tormented me in training all the time, to be fair. He is a good player to play against, if you want to improve defensively. For me, he has helped me develop, because he has torn me up a few times on the training ground.”

Despite Saturday’s victory over Reading, Forest are not yet safe in the Championship and Lichaj has told fans Carayol could be key in helping the club move up the table, he continued:

“I guess fans might not have seen it as much, because he has not had that much opportunity in the side. But he has had an opportunity in the last two games, against Cardiff and Reading and he was brilliant in both.

"Hopefully he can keep it up for the last two games now, because we will get the results that will propel us in the right direction if he is at the top of his game."

Forest are currently 20th in the Championship table, and with two fixtures of the season remaining, they are three-points clear of the relegation zone.

Warburton’s side face Queens Park Rangers and Ipswich Town in their remaining games, where one more victory should be enough to secure survival.
