Millwall should have nothing to fear heading into the new Sky Bet Championship season.

The Lions have been buoyed by holding onto their best players, despite rumblings that Jake Cooper could be off to Rangers - boss Neil Harris has reiterated no player is for sale.

Harris’ men are the quintessential underdog.

The idiosyncratic nature of Millwall makes them dangerous — write them off at your own peril.

The Lions opened their pre-season bout of fixtures away to Dartford last Saturday.

And if you think Lions fans would get excited at beating a non-league side 5-0, you’re right they would!

There is a feel good atmosphere at the club, be it due to the weather or England’s unprecedented success in this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

That is down to how Harris has handled expectation and of course how last season ended.

The closer the season comes, the more anticipation there is to watch a Lions side who will give their all once more, come rain or shine.

Of course there are sides in the Championship that have the financial clout the Lions could only ever dream about. But that shouldn’t faze anyone.

There has been one signing so far in Murray Wallace who was solid on his debut in the destruction of The Darts

The Lions have signed Ben Amos on loan from Bolton, who are currently in a fiscal disaster.

He will add real quality and competition for the number one shirt that the Lions fans have craved after question marks over Jordan Archer at points last season.

Add in the seemingly impending arrival of striker Tom Bradshaw from Barnsley.

They are two quality additions to a side who don’t usually get the players they want and have to settle for fourth or fifth choice on the list.

The players Millwall are attracting would walk right in to most other Championship sides.

The club is making strides on and off the pitch, even adding LED advertising at The Den.

Why should Millwall worry? They had a storming season last time out.

Maybe the sun is getting to their fans but it could be a memorable season when the new campaign kicks off in three weeks time.
