Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has moved to cool the situation following his rant at two Leeds United players last week.

After seeing his side confirmed as finishing in the top two after Leeds' 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday last week, Wilder was high on emotion and called out both Adam Forshaw and Patrick Bamford as 'muppets' for trying to put the pressure on the Blades.

However, speaking to the Sun with comments published in the Yorkshire Post, Wilder moved to cool the situation, blaming alcohol and high emotions for his comments, but insisting it was nothing personal.

“Emotions were high and we’d had a couple of drinks but that’s how it is and that’s how I am. I’m old school and when people open their mouth and say things they’ve got to expect stuff to come back." Wilder said.

Indeed, Wilder commented further that he would not be surprised to see Leeds go up in the play-offs, saying they are an 'outstanding team' following a ding-dong battle with his Sheffield United squad throughout the course of the season in the Championship.

Wilder is hoping to lead his Blades team to the title this weekend with a win at Stoke, knowing that if Villa can beat Norwich then he will get his hands on the trophy.

The Verdict

It all got a bit blown out of proportion this in honesty, and it's just how Wilder is really.

Yes he was a bit out of line but he wears his heart on his sleeve and backs his players to the hilt.

Hopefully everyone can move on from this now and enjoy what is left of what has been a superb season in the Championship.
