Dean Smith was officially appointed as Steve Bruce's successor at Aston Villa on Wednesday evening and he will work alongside a former Villa player this season. 

Former Villa and Chelsea defender John Terry was announced as Smith's assistant for Aston Villa and the news will please Villa fans who were keen to see Terry return to the team after he helped guide them to the play-offs last season as a player.

But a well-known Leeds United journalist has weighed in with his opinion on Terry's appointment as Smith's assistant.

Yorkshire Evening Post's Phil Hay questioned the appointment of Terry as assistant manager, which will be Terry's first managerial role in his career.
