Sheffield Wednesday have a new candidate for the manager's role with Cosmin Contra a contender, according to Sky Sports.

The Owls are still looking for a new boss after sacking Tony Pulis from his position at the end of December.

Contra left his last role as manager of Dinamo Bucharest in December and it's said that the Romanian is keen on the role at Hillsborough as he looks to get himself back into the game.

But would the 45-year-old be a good choice?

In my eyes, Contra would just be another Jos Luhukay-type appointment for Wednesday and that's not what they need right now.

The result against Millwall on Saturday was a bit of a blip, but Neil Thompson on the whole has been doing a good job and to be honest I feel like he deserves it until the end of the season.

Contra is only 45 years old but he's been around quite a few jobs already and is well-travelled - he's managed in Romania, China and Spain and his win percentage of 45.62% isn't too bad.

But his longest run as a manager of one club has been just 58 games, and you'd have to ask why he has a habit of hopping from club to club without sticking around for too long - if I was Dejphon Chansiri I would be looking elsewhere.

Personally, I don't think this would be such a wise move given the club's situation. He's got no experience of managing in the EFL and that could well mean that coming into what is an already turbulent club may make things worse. Surely Wednesday have to be thinking about appointing someone with more experience of managing in this country. I don't see the logic in this and if this is where the bar is being set, I really feel for the Owls going forwards. Toby Wilding
I can't see this being a particularly smart move for Sheffield Wednesday to make. In fairness to Contra, a brief glimpse down his managerial record does suggest that he is a reasonably solid coach, and he isn't someone who has a CV riddled with relegations that would cause a major issue for potential employers. However, it is probably fair to say that morale is not exactly high amongst the club's fanbase at the minute, so you can't imagine the appointment of a relative unknown will go down particularly well around Hillsborough, given some of the more established and proven managers that are available. Indeed, the fact that Contra has next to no experience of English football - a brief loan spell at West Brom in 2004/05 aside - means this is an appointment that could be something of a risk for Wednesday, given there is no guarantee he will settle in the Championship, and their current position means that is a chance you question whether they can afford to take.
