Despite their impressive opening day performance Phil Parkinson will still be keen to strengthen his Bolton side before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.

The Whites went to the Hawthorns and took all three points from a much fancied West Brom thanks to goals from new signings Josh Magennis and Yanic Wildschut.

Parkinson has already brought in 14 new recruits this summer as he looks to steer his side away from a relegation battle this season after last year's last day escape.

And one more man who he reportedly has his eye on is former Aston Villa and Stoke City midfielder Stephen Ireland.

The Irishman was on trial with the Bolton a few weeks ago but picked up a calf injury cutting his audition short.

But would the 31-year-old be a good addition to Parkinson's squad?

We discuss...

George Dagless

It's an interesting one.

If he stays fit he could prove a decent arrival as there can be no doubting his ability on the ball.

Staying fit is a big if, though.

Gary Hutchinson

Yeah, not a bad one at all. Stephen Ireland might not be at the peak of his ability, but he's experienced and able and will add value to a side like Bolton.

I'd imagine he's cheap too, so there's not an awful lot of risk attached to the move.

Jay Taylor

Not the most inspiring signing, but he could do a job.

The 31-year-old is a free agent after his release from Stoke and could be a player to help as a sub more than a constant starter.

I don’t really think this will change Bolton’s long-term problems and their inevitable decline after a solid start to the season.

Alfie Burns

Bolton’s business is intensifying at a late stage of the transfer window, and Ireland could be another shrewd addition.

At his best, Ireland would be a good option.

Finding that level will be a task for Parkinson, however.
