Sky Bet League Two side Port Vale have recently confirmed the appointment of John Askey as the club's new first-team manager until the end of the season.

The Valiants have been in searching for a new manager after parting company with Neil Aspin last week, and have now found their man in the form of a familiar face.

Askey is no stranger to those at Vale Park, he came through the youth ranks with the Staffordshire club, and his father, Colin, made over 200 appearances for the club during a nine-year stint in Burslem.

The 54-year old has been without a club after being sacked by Shrewsbury Town in November, where he won just five out of 21 games in charge of the Shropshire club.

But the former Vale forward is mostly known for his time with Macclesfield Town, where under tough conditions off the pitch, guided the Silkmen up to League Two last season.
