One of the reported frontrunners to take charge at Derby County, John Terry, is understood to be excited about the prospect of taking charge, which has drawn an interesting reaction from fans of the club.

Terry is currently an assistant coach at Aston Villa and, according to Sky Sports, is among the frontrunners to be the new Derby boss.

Phillip Cocu left the club last month and Wayne Rooney is currently leading the interim coaching team in charge, with the former England striker thought to be interested in replacing the Dutchman permanently.

The report claims that Terry feels taking charge at Pride Park is an excellent opportunity and is particularly excited about the prospect of added financial investment following the impending takeover.

It is understood that Shiekh Khaled's £60 million takeover is in its final legal stages.

In late November, Steve McLaren was appointed as a technical director at the club, which could suggest that the Rams are preparing for an inexperienced manager to be appointed.

Terry would certainly be that as the Derby job would be his first in management.
