Sunderland goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin is reportedly edging closer to a move to Blackburn Rovers according to journalist Alan Nixon.

It has previously been reported by The Sun on Sunday that McLaughlin was a long-term transfer target for Tony Mowbray's side, as the Lancashire-based side look to strengthen their squad ahead of next year's campaign.

McLaughlin has made 35 appearances in total for Sunderland this season, and has played his part in their promotion bid this term, with the Black Cats currently sat seventh in the third tier standings.

But the shot-stopper is out-of-contract at the end of this year's campaign, and it seems likely that he'll be heading for the exit door in the near future.

Blackburn currently have Christian Walton between the posts this term, but he'll return to Brighton and Hove Albion from his loan spell with Tony Mowbray's men.

Plenty of Sunderland fans took to social media to issue their thoughts on McLaughlin's rumoured departure from the Stadium of Light.
