‘Not surprised’, ‘probably for the best’ – Many Rotherham United fans react to club announcement

Rotherham United have announced their retained list following the end of the 2020/21 campaign, with the club posting that several players have departed the New York Stadium on Twitter earlier today.

Departures were widely expected following the club’s unfortunate relegation back to Sky Bet League One and as a result of this, it has been confirmed that Billy Jones, Shaun MacDonald, Jamie Proctor, Clark Robertson and Kyle Vassell will all depart for pastures new once their respective deals expire at the end of June.

Meanwhile the likes of right-back Matt Olosunde and goalkeeper Josh Vickers have been offered fresh terms, with their contracts also set to expire in just over a months time.

Whilst the club’s loan players, Lewis Wing, George Hirst, Jamal Blackman, Ryan Giles and Florian Jozefzoon are all set to return to their parent sides after the completion of the season.

Naturally the news of the retained list didn’t take long to reach the club’s fanbase, with many taking to social media to make their feelings known on the subject.
