After their emphatic relegation from the Championship amid a host of off-field problems, Bolton Wanderers fans will have been keen for a positive start to the summer.

The club already have a points deduction coming their way at the start of the 2019/20 season but stability was top of the supporters' wishlist above everything else.

But with over a month since the season finished the club are still yet to find a new owner as the saga continues to drag on.

It continues to have a knock-on effect on the squad as well and news emerged regarding one of their most experienced pros on Monday.

The Bolton News reported that centre-back David Wheater has been offered the chance to play in the SPL by an unnamed club after his contract officially expired on Sunday.

His departure would signal the end of an eight-and-a-half year association with the club, and plenty of fans are not happy about it.
