Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has enjoyed a positive start to life at Hillsborough and has already had a big impact on the team.

From his very first game, a goalless draw in the Steel City derby, you could see that the former Gladbach coach had installed a resilience and organisation in the side that had been missing towards the end of the Carlos Carvalhal era.

Perhaps more importantly, the 3-5-2 formation the Owls have adopted also seems to suit the players in the squad too.

Yet, what’s more impressive is that Luhukay has made this start during a remarkable injury crisis. The Owls have been missing up to a dozen players in the past few weeks, with the majority all vital players.

Thankfully, it is beginning to clear up now though. That, combined with the arrival of a few new signings have given fans a more optimistic outlook for the remainder of the season and what the future holds.

However, with such a big squad when everyone is fit, there are a few players who need to leave the Yorkshire club and here we look at two men who could be off.

Almen Abdi

The former Watford midfielder was a classy player on his day and is very good on the ball but he has suffered with several injuries in recent seasons.

And, the competition in the Owls midfield means it’s hard to see how he fits in.

Kieran Lee and Barry Bannan are two of the first names on the teamsheet when available whilst Sam Hutchinson isn’t far behind.

When you add in new signing Joey Pelupessy and Dave Jones who has improved greatly under Luhukay, it’s tough to say he will play.

That’s not to mention Jacob Butterfield who is available and Adam Reach and Ross Wallace who have played centrally in recent weeks.

It’s best for all concerned if Abdi moves on as soon as possible.

Atdhe Nuhiu

The big striker is out of contract in the summer so this is the last chance to get a fee for the player, although he wouldn’t cost much at all.

Either way, Nuhiu has been a useful player over the years and is a good plan B but it’s time for him to move on.

Lucas Joao has impressed under Luhukay and has partnered Jordan Rhodes, whilst Marco Matias has done well when given a chance.

Once again though, it’s the options that Wednesday have waiting to return that means selling Nuhiu makes sense. Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri are all on their way back and they will push the big man out the picture, so it's best to sell now.
