HDerby County were made to rue missed chances as Phillip Cocu’s side were held to a 1-1 home draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams would have been looking to bounce back after what was a hugely disappointing performance in midweek, where they lost 2-1 to Bristol City at Pride Park after failing to show any sign of attacking quality whatsoever.
But it didn’t take long for Derby to break the deadlock at the weekend, with Martyn Waghorn winning a penalty and converting from the spot after just six minutes.
Chances came thick and fast for the Rams after that, and it was Waghorn who was given another massive opportunity to double his and Derby’s tally for the afternoon after they were given another penalty for handball.
But the striker was unable to do so, with Sam Johnstone getting down low to deny the former Ipswich man, which changed the impetus of the game.
West Brom came out firing in the second half, and after a third penalty of the afternoon was given by the referee, Kenneth Zohore made no mistake from 12 yards to salvage a late point for Albion.
Waghorn started on the wing for Derby at the weekend which gave Jack Marriott the chance to impress up top on his own, but after a mixed afternoon for the former, we take a look at Derby fans’ reactions to his performance…
Don't agree with those calling for Waghorn to come off penalties. Think the error was in the same taker twice in one game 🤔 #dcfc

In my humble opinion today's best players were
🥇 Martyn Waghorn – ran all day and was always helping out at back
🥈Jason Knight – may not have tackled but always looking for the ball and ran forever
🥉 Richard Keogh – again another stand out Captains performance

Solid performance. Knight and Buchanan stepped in really well. Waghorn and Marriott ran their socks off. Captains performance from Keogh. Lowe unlucky with the pen but you can’t dive in. #dcfc #dcfcfans

I certainly don't blame Waghorn… especially today… was a brilliant save… blame the team for failing to get a 2nd goal… but not Waggy

Dowell is too lazy to be an average player. Waghorn not good enough, costs us points again. #dcfc

Waghorn cost us 2 games now

Much better today and the better team for majority. Waghorn better out on the wing and worked hard. Marriott proved why he starts games. Buchanan needs more game time as poor today

Waghorn on the wing 😍 #dcfc

Back four look solid. Buchanan & Knight look comfortable in the first XI. Waghorn looks wasted out wide, but still offering more than Zoon. #dcfc
