Phillip Cocu questioned Jayden Bogle's ego after Derby County's 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

The Rams suffered a late blow when Huddersfield grabbed a late equaliser through Harry Toffolo, a goal that could have been completely avoided if it wasn't for defensive mistakes.

Derby did take the lead on the hour mark thanks to a thunderous strike from Tom Lawrence, a lead that the Rams deserved after an impressive second-half display.

But their hard work was undone on 81 minutes - Jayden Bogle headed a poor clearance to Harry Toffolo, who skipped past the right-back before slotting home into the bottom corner.

Bogle had only been on the pitch for three minutes before Huddersfield's goal, coming on to replace Andre Widsom in his favoured full-back position.

Cocu was left bitterly disappointed with Bogle's performance after the game, and he offered a brutally honest assessment of his player's display.

Via the Derby Telegraph, he said: "It starts with the clearance with the header, Bogle, it's a very easy header and he gives it away. Then he doesn't push him (Toffolo) to the outside - just basic.

"For me, it confirmed that he maybe was upset that he didn't play, but you have to put your ego aside and when your team and your team mates need you, you have to be 100% focused in the game. It was obvious that was not good enough from his side.

"I don't think confidence is a problem with Jayden. He is a confident player, and as a right full back he has a lot of potential going forward.

"That is OK, but he has to learn in the game of football if you are a defender you have a big responsibility to the team. You also have to defend, not only Bogle, everybody. It is not easy to come on in a game. We had to change it, I don't like to change defenders when it is not necessary, but Wisdom had a hamstring problem and he had to come off."

Derby now sit 13th in the Sky Bet Championship table, nine points off the play-off places.

The Verdict

Bogle is a tricky player to work out - some games he looks really assured defensively, but in other games, he looks like a rabbit in the headlights.

He needed to switch on and look on it right from the moment he ran onto the pitch to replace Wisdom, but he lacked concentration right from minute one.

He allowed Toffolo to drive past him far too easily and gave the ball away in the first place, which is far from ideal.
