Sunderland have reportedly made an approach to appoint Daniel Stendel as their new manager according to Chronicle Live.

The League One club have begun their search to find a new manager, with Jack Ross having his contract terminated after an inconsistent start to this year's league campaign.

The Black Cats currently are sixth in the league table, but were beaten 2-0 by Lincoln City, in what proved to be Ross' last game in charge.

Stendel hasn't been out of work for very long, with the 45-year-old being relieved of his duties in charge of Barnsley on Tuesday morning.

He guided them to promotion from League One in his first season in charge of the Tykes, but struggled to adapt to life in the Championship.

But it seems as though he's done enough to impress the Sunderland hierarchy with the club making an approach for him.

Plenty of Sunderland fans took to social media to react to this recent update.
