Many Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been suggesting that Joey Pelupessy does not have the sort of quality they need moving forwards, following the midfielder’s latest comments over his long-term future.

Pelupessy has only managed to make just ten appearances in the Championship for Garry Monk’s side so far this season, although he has been starting to feature more heavily of late, starting in four of the Owls’ last five Championship matches.

The 26-year-old though was taken off at half time by Monk last weekend, as the Owls slumped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Reading, and the midfielder has at times come under scrutiny from Sheffield Wednesday’s supporters over the consistency and quality he is able to display in his performances.

The midfielder arrived at the club in January 2018 and was one of Jos Luhukay’s first signings at the club, and he went onto make 17 Championship appearances during the second half of the 2017/18 season - and he was a regular under Luhukay last term, before he was sacked, making 33 league appearances in total during the campaign.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Pelupessy outlined his ambition to stay at the club beyond the summer when his current contract expires, saying: "In every interview here I've said I'm happy here, it's an amazing club. I know it now, two years ago when I came here I was looking thinking what is going on here.

"The fans are amazing. I'd really like to stay in England, 100 per cent.

"I haven't spoken with the club yet. Maybe my agent. I should say, but personally with my agent. I don't want to hear this (about contract negotiations), I only want to hear when something is really clear or when we know what is going to happen."

Some Sheffield Wednesday fans believe that he should not be offered a new deal, with the Owls in need of players with better ability in possession, if they are going to be able to compete for places at the top of the Championship next term.
