Nottingham Forest are set to rival Championship title winners Norwich City for the signing of defender Marko Burki from Belgian side Zulte Waregem.

Burki only made the move to Belgium from his native Switzerland last summer, but it seems the defender is already attracting attention from further afield.

According to The Nottingham Post, Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws have named Forest as one of five sides who are targeting the 25-year-old, with Norwich, Serie A side Torino and Spanish outfit Leganes among the others interested in the defender.

It has also been claimed that an €800,000 price-tag has been placed on Burki's head by Waregem.

So, would Burki be a good signing for Nottingham Forest?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their opinions...

George Harbey

"Is this is a signing that Forest really need to make?

"The Reds already have a plethora of talented, versatile defenders in their ranks, with Yohan Benalouane, Alex Milosevic and Jack Robinson all forming a solid partnership towards the end of the campaign.

"With Joe Worrall and Michael Dawson waiting in the wings too, I think that they should strengthen elsewhere."

Toby Wilding

"I'm not sure this is the most necessary signing for Forest right now.

"They already have one of the biggest squads in the division, with over 30 players on the books.

"Any signing that does come in will therefore have to be one that is guaranteed to make a significant difference to the club, and with the raft of solid defensive options Forest already have, I'm not convinced Burki will get the chance to do that."

Ben Lang

"I don't see any reason why Burki can't be a success at Forest.

"He is a former Europa League defender so he arrives with high pedigree, while he is also versatile and can play at centre-back and left-back.

"O'Neill will have a clear idea of the mould of player he wants at Forest, so he will be familiar with Burki's qualities and this can only be a good thing."

Gary Hutchinson

“It’s not a move I can see working out.

“You only have to look at some of the signings from Europe they made this season to see settling in Nottingham is not easy.

“I think their policy should focus on players based in England, used to the climate and the challenges of the Championship.

“If I were a Forest fan, I wouldn’t be excited.”
