Nottingham Forest are among a host of Championship clubs reportedly interested in signing Leyton Orient forward Macauley Bonne in January.
Forest’s promotion rivals Leeds United, Norwich City and Derby County are all said to be interested in signing the striker, who has scored 16 goals in 21 games for Orient this term.
Here, we discuss whether he’d be a good signing for Forest…
I’m really not sure he is the man Forest should be targeting.
His record in the Football League for Colchester is far from inspiring, and even though he has been on fire for Orient in the National League, there is a huge gulf in class between the two divisions.
Karanka should steer clear – he’s never going to get in ahead of Grabban, Ansarifard and Soudani once the latter returns from injury.
I can’t see it – Bonne has done well at Orient, but spells at Lincoln, Woking and Colchester didn’t work out.
He’s got potential, but to jump up four divisions?
Not a chance.
This could be a sensible move from Karanka.
Forest have almost definitely made too many signings this season but the striking situation could still do with improving.
Grabban has been great but there is no guarantee that Ansarifard will fire.
He would add to some already impressive attacking firepower.
Aitor Karanka could get the best out of Bonne and he could challenge Lewis Grabban for a starting spot if he can adjust to life in the Championship quickly.
He would be worth the gamble, and could play a crucial role in their promotion ambitions this season.
