Queens Park Rangers fans still hold a soft spot for ex-striker Charlie Austin, who has taken to Twitter today to issue a throwback to his days at Loftus Road.  

Austin is currently with West Brom across the Championship, but the outbreak of coronavirus has led to professional footballers up and down the country self-isolating, awaiting the season’s resume.

With no boots available to him, the striker has had to dig out the pair he wore during the 2014 play-off final, when the R’s beat Derby County 1-0 at Wembley thanks to Bobby Zamora’s memorable goal.

Despite the Wembley heroics going to Zamora, Austin’s 20-goal haul in the regular season, including the decisive goals against Wigan Athletic in the play-off semi-finals, means he was largely responsible for promotion to the Premier League.

And, following this update on Twitter, R’s fans have flooded into Austin’s replies.
