Football League World's Leeds United fan pundit, James Allan has issued his thoughts as Bailey Peacock-Farrell's move to Burnley was confirmed on Friday.

The shot-stopper struggled for game time since Kiko Casilla arrived at Elland Road in the January transfer window, and it came as no surprise to see him leave the club before the new season gets underway.

"Peacock-Farrell was in the last year of his contract, so £3.5m is not a bad bit of business for Leeds. He has had an up and down time at Leeds, not cementing down that number one shirt when given the chance.

"I think it makes sense for him to move on for first-team football at this stage in his career, however I don’t see him getting this at Burnley.

Leeds' current first-choice goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla received criticism from some of the Elland Road faithful for some of his questionable performances last season.

Allan went on to admit that the former Real Madrid man has enough about him to recover from last year's campaign, and perform to a high standard as the Whites push for a long-awaited promotion to the Premier League this term.

"Casilla is obviously a keeper of quality. I think he struggled to settle maybe last year, not helped by a few key errors.

"He was in net for the second-half of last season when we were more defensively frail, and I don’t think this was all his doing. A keeper of his calibre is more than capable to be the goalkeeper for a promotion pushing campaign."

The Leeds fan pundit voiced his frustration at the club's transfer policy heading into the new season, and insisted that Bielsa needs to invest in the first-team squad before the summer transfer window reaches its conclusion.

"Quite frankly, who knows what is going on behind the scenes at Leeds. We need to reinvest in some key areas, particularly at centre back, but there are little signs of this happening.

"I think it is frustrating most fans how the club say they are happy with the current shape of the squad, as all fans can see the holes and weaknesses where we were exposed in the latter stages of the season.

Allan doesn't feel as though there should be any hard feelings towards Peacock-Farrell as he leaves in favour of a move to Turf Moor.

"I don’t think fans should be concerned with Peacock-Farrell leaving, as he was a great guy but it didn’t always work out for him in a Leeds shirt.

"I wish him all the best and have always been a fan of him as a professional, and hope he does well in the future and remains Northern Ireland number one for a long time."

Leeds will turn their attention to their season opener against Bristol City, in what will be a tough test for Marcelo Bielsa's men in the first game of the 2019/20 league campaign.
