The sales of James Maddison to Leicester City for a club record of £24 million and Josh Murphy to Cardiff City for £11 million mean Norwich City have acquired a serious war chest to take into this transfer window.

While this will be partially offset by the ceasing of parachute payments, Daniel Farke will have the funds to make at least one major signing. It should be Jordan Rhodes.

The Scotsman’s fall from grace has been pronounced over the past few seasons. In his Huddersfield and Blackburn heyday, he regularly topped twenty goals per season. It seemed he was destined for a long stay in the Premier League. Yet his top-flight experience was brief. Two starts, four substitute appearances and no goals precipitated a swift return to the Championship where his form is yet to return. A measly return of eight goals in 49 league appearances for Sheffield Wednesday showcased his lack of confidence.

This was due to Jos Luhukay’s preference for playing with two strikers instead of one and the fierce competition for places. This deprived Rhodes of the level of service he expected and limited chances for him to return to form. At Norwich, however, Farke’s 4-2-3-1 formation would allow Rhodes to flourish once more.

With Wednesday looking to offload players and having plenty of options up front, Rhodes will be available. He will be expensive with the Owls looking to recoup the £10 million they spent on him, but, should he return to form, he will be worth every penny.
