Norwich City are closing in on the permanent signing of Moritz Leitner following a highly impressive loan stint at the club last season, according to The Eastern Daily Press.

Daniel Farke has decided to move for Leitner on a permanent deal and has agreed a deal with FC Augsburg and the player.

The former Germany under-21 international is now expected to undergo a medical today ahead of his return.

The 25-year-old is a creative midfielder who knows Farke well from their time together at Borussia Dortmund.

Formerly of 1860 Munich and Lazio, Leitner impressed on loan at Norwich after joining the club in January.

He played 12 games, although his chances were restricted by injury, and he impressed fans during this time.

Norwich have lost two important attacking midfielders with Josh Murphy and James Maddison joining Cardiff City and Leicester City respectively but - armed with the cash from these sales - the club has decided to bring Leitner back to Carrow Road.

The Verdict

Sealing this permanent deal for Leitner is vitally important for Norwich's promotion hopes.

Having lost Maddison, they needed to replace his creativity in midfield and Leitner showed that he is more than capable of stepping into that role.

The midfield man has genuine class and will only get better in a starring role for the Canaries.
