Norwich City are set to end speculation concerning Ben Godfrey's future and reward him with a new deal, according to HITC Sport.

There was growing interest in Godfrey this summer but Norwich are keen on keeping their young midfield man with a new long-term contract on the table.

The 20-year-old stood out as one of the best players in League One last season during a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town, where he reached the final of the Checkatrade Trophy and the League One play-off final - only to lose both.

Predominantly a central midfielder, Godfrey is also comfortable at the heart of defence and he was not short of admirers this summer.

Premier League side Crystal Palace were rivalling Championship duo West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City for the former York City man but Norwich are set to hand him a new deal.

Godfrey has only played six senior games for the Canaries so far but Daniel Farke rates him highly and wants to integrate him into the first-team for next season.

The Verdict

Godfrey could play a starring role in Norwich's midfield next season and this is great business by the Canaries.

After showing composure and maturity beyond his years with his displays in League One, the young midfield man is ready to make the step up and shine in this Norwich team.

I can see him playing a pivotal role in Farke's plans for next season.
