Norwich City look likely to win the race for a German based winger who has been attracting interest from Championship table toppers Wolverhampton Wanderers and Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town.

According to transfer news from Charlie Wyett of The Sun, Norwich City are moving closer towards the signing of Eintracht Braunschweig winger Onel Hernandez after submitting a £1.7m bid for his services.

Norwich are armed with cash from Alex Pritchard's £11.9m move to Huddersfield and could look to splash some of this on Hernandez.

The Canaries have already swooped to bring in Marcus Edwards on loan from Tottenham Hotspur but they are still looking to strengthen their attacking midfield options.

Hernandez, formerly of Arminia Bielefeld, Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg, is currently playing for Eintracht Braunschweig in the 2. Bundesliga, which is the second tier of German football.

The Cuban-born winger joined Braunschweig in 2016 and has helped them to 14th in the league this season.

The former Germany under-18 international is interested by a move to England, though, and is now closing in on his switch to Norwich.

It is believed that even if Norwich finalise this deal for the 24-year-old, they will still plan to resist any offers from the Premier League big boys hoping to prise star man James Maddison away from Carrow Road.

The Verdict

Daniel Farke has an in-depth knowledge of the top two tiers of German football and he will know which players to bring in. Hernandez has been performing well for his club in the second tier of German football for the past two years so he has caught the eye of Farke. To beat heavy spending Wolves and Premier League Huddersfield to this deal also represents a coup for the Canaries.
