Sunderland, Norwich and Nottingham Forest are amongst the clubs chasing the signature of Spurs starlet Maxwell Statham, according to the print edition of the Daily Mirror (March 1, page 66).

Statham, the son of former Spurs player Brian, recently trained with Brentford who are also on his tail, although he been back with his parent club this week.

Maurico Pocettino has yet to offer the 18-year-old a new deal and that has piqued the interest of the Championship clubs.

It's suggested in the report that current Championship leaders Norwich are ahead in the hunt for his signature. The Canaries have proven adept at developing young talent in recent season, with Jacob and Josh Murphy making the step up to the top flight, as well as James Maddison.

Ben Godfrey and Max Aarons have both become staples of the side this season and that is surely a lure for any young player.

Statham will be 19 in September and has featured regularly for the Spurs Under 18 side, but hasn't managed to make the step up to the next level.

The Verdict

Norwich would be a great destination for the youngster. They clearly know how to nurture talent and get the best out of young players, although they could be top flight next season. That might change things.

Another good destination might be Sunderland. Jack Ross has proven he's not afraid to blood younger players, such as Josh Maja and Lynden Gooch.
