Norwich City are cooling their interest in Andre Dozzell due to Ipswich Town's valuation of the midfielder, the East Anglian Daily Times have reported.

It was reported earlier this week that the newly-promoted Premier League side were taking an interest in the 20-year-old from their local rivals, following Ipswich's relegation to League One last season.

Now however, it appears that the Canaries are reconsidering their efforts to bring in the midfielder, after being quoted a price tag of £5million by the Tractor Boys.

Daniel Farke's side are said to be reluctant to pay that for a player who is entering the final year of his contract with his current club, although it should be noted that Ipswich do have the option of extending that deal by a further 12 months.

Although there has been contact between the two clubs over Dozzell, it understood that Norwich have yet to actually make a concrete offer to Ipswich for the midfielder.

Speaking about the interest in Dozzell on Thursday, Ipswich boss Paul Lambert made it clear that a move for the 20-year-old wouldn't be cheap, telling the EADT: "There's not been anything that's come in.

"Unless somebody tells me what's going to happen, you can talk all you want and speculate.

"If it's Premier League clubs then it's got to be a heck of a lot of money that moves anybody.

"I've been in the Premier League, I know the level of money, so for any player it's going to have to be a hell of a lot of money."

A graduate of Ipswich's academy, Dozzell made his debut for the club in the April 2016 at the age of just 16, and the midfielder has since gone onto make 32 appearances in all competitions for the Tractor Boys, scoring twice.

The Verdict

I think this is a fair move from Ipswich here.

Dozzell has shown plenty of potential during his time at Ipswich, despite their relegation last season, so you can understand why the club are so keen to keep him at Portman Road.

The option of a further 12 months on his contract arguably puts the Tractor Boys in a stronger negotiating position than they otherwise would be, and that has no doubt helped them to place such a sizeable asking price on the midfielder.

With Alan Judge also being linked with a move away this summer, Ipswich look as though they are starting to feel the pressure that a drop into the third tier can bring in the transfer window, although they so far seem to have coped with that rather well.
