Norwich City are close to signing Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts on a season-long loan as they look to strengthen for the Premier League.

The Canaries won promotion from the Championship in style under Danie Farke, securing the title on the final day.

Since then, they will have been preparing for the top-flight and The Sun have revealed that Roberts could be the first new addition at Carrow Road this summer.

The report states that the 22-year-old is having a medical ahead of his move, which will see him temporarily move away from City again.

Roberts enjoyed two-and-a-half successful years with Celtic, starring as they won the treble under Brendan Rodgers in his first season in charge.

His second season in Glasgow was hampered somewhat by injury and he moved to La Liga outfit Girona last season but couldn't help them avoid relegation.

The classy winger managed just 19 appearances, with many of those as a substitute, and he failed to score in that time, so he will hope to get more regular football with the Yellows.

The Verdict

This is an exciting signing for Norwich as the potential with Roberts is clear to see, he just needs a platform to show what he can do on a regular basis.

Farke's side should allow him to do that and their style of play should ensure the youngster can thrive.

It's now about closing the deal and this could be one of many transfers made by the Canaries in the coming months.
