10. Dean Ashton - £3 million

Norwich broke their transfer record to sign Dean Ashton from Crewe for £3 million in January 2005, with the striker having fired in goals for the North West club.

His stay at Carrow Road was a brief but effective one. Ashton found the net 18 times in 46 appearances for the Canaries before he was snapped up by West Ham United for £7 million – with the Norfolk side making a fair bit of profit.

He retired in December 2009 after injuries hampered the late part of his career and can now be seen doing punditry, mostly on the EFL and West Ham.
