Norwich City could stand to benefit from James Maddison’s potential move from Leicester City to Newcastle United. 

Maddison has been with Leicester since the summer of 2018, when the Foxes swooped to take him to the King Power from Norwich for a fee in the region of £20m.

That came off the back of a season where the midfielder struck 14 goals and eight assists for Norwich in the Championship, form that has continued in the Premier League with 33 goals and 23 goals across four top-flight seasons, alongside impacts across European and domestic cup competitions.

Maddison’s numbers across all competitions in 2021/22 read 18 goals and 12 assists.

As per a report from Pink Un, Norwich could stand to benefit should Maddison move on from Leicester this summer, having inserted a number of clauses into the deal that took him to the East Midlands.

The standout clause is a 15% sell-on of any profit made, which could boost Norwich significantly this summer.

Maddison is currently the subject of serious interest from Newcastle, as they look for attacking breakthroughs in the summer transfer window. It’s been reported by Sky Sports that a £50m bid has been made, whilst other reports suggest Leicester are holding out for £60m.

The Verdict 

15% is a significant sell-on clause, particularly when we are talking about Leicester landing a £30-40m profit on Maddison.

We are talking about a potential fee around £5m dropping Norwich’s way if Maddison goes, which is going to help them out this summer.

Of course, a deal hasn’t been agreed yet, but from a Norwich point of view, they will hope developments move forwards.
