Norwich City are on the verge of signing Tom Scully on a free transfer, according to The Liverpool Echo.

Everton have recently released youngster Scully but he has quickly found himself a new club with Norwich set to snap him up.

Scully was one of eight under-18 players to be released by Everton this summer as they eye a clear-out and a revamp in their academy system.

Despite captaining the under-18 side for the whole season, Scully has been deemed surplus to requirements at Everton and is now free to join other clubs.

The former Liverpool schoolboy, who joined Everton shortly after playing for their rivals, leaves Goodison Park without getting a first-team outing.

The 18-year-old is now closing in on a switch to Norwich, with the Canaries keen to bolster their youth options.

The talented teenager plays as a central midfielder and quotes Luka Modric as his all-time favourite player.

Norwich will be hoping that the youngster has a bright future ahead of him as they finalise a deal to bring him to Carrow Road.

Scully will not cost Norwich a transfer fee nor a compensation fee as Everton decided to release him.

The Verdict

Scully is a clear leader despite his young age.

He is a captain at youth level and he will look to bring his leadership and experience of playing in a top class academy to Norwich.

You would imagine that the starlet would start in Norwich's academy and then progress into a first-team footballer as soon as he impresses - his route to the first-team looks clearer than it did with the Toffees.
