Ahead of today's home clash against Preston North End, Norwich City will make assess a duo of midfield players later ahead of deciding their match day squad.

The Norwich City official Twitter account has confirmed that Daniel Farke will leave it late before making a call over whether Harrison Reed and Marley Watkins will be included today.

It will be a return to Carrow Road for Preston manager Alex Neil but his former club have a heavily depleted squad.

Attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard is out, although he has returned to training recently, while long-term absentees Steven Naismith and Matt Jarvis remain sidelined.

Tom Trybull (back) and James Husband (groin) remain out after missing the midweek clash against Nottingham Forest, although Farke hopes that Trybull will return in time for the Cardiff City match.

Meanwhile, towering defender Timm Klose is out with a strained glute muscle, paving the way for Christoph Zimmermann to enter the starting XI.

With this long list of absentees, Norwich manager Daniel Farke will be hoping to be handed a boost today when he assesses the fitness levels of Harrison Reed and Marley Watkins.

Central midfielder Reed, on loan from Southampton, has pain in his feet while winger Watkins is struggling with a hip injury.

The Verdict

It will be a major boost for Norwich if Reed and Watkins can make the squad today - even if they do only sit on the bench.

With a lengthy injury list and a dip in form of late, the Canaries will be trying to rush back the likes of Pritchard and Klose to boost their squad.

In the meantime, Farke will be hoping that the likes of James Maddison and Josh Murphy step up and perform.
