Norwich City set to complete transfer after agreeing eight-figure sum with PL side

Norwich City winger Josh Murphy is heading to Premier League new boys Cardiff City, according to a report by The Telegraph.

Cardiff are set to snap Murphy up after bidding in excess of £10m for his signature and a medical is due to take place today.

Josh Murphy is therefore set to join his twin brother Jacob Murphy in the Premier League after the latter joined Newcastle United for an initial £10m last summer.

Josh remained with Norwich for the duration of this season, scoring 11 goals and grabbing three assists in 46 games in all competitions.

The 23-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed with Premier League sides taking a keen interest in his services.

That included Brighton and Hove Albion and newly-promoted Fulham but it appears that Cardiff have won the race to sign Murphy ahead of their Premier League campaign.

After winning automatic promotion on the final day of the season, the Bluebirds are keen to strengthen their squad to ensure they are well-equipped to survive the drop in the top flight.

Neil Warnock is therefore splashing big money on the former England under-21 international to improve his options in attacking midfield.

The Verdict

Murphy plays as a winger, central attacking midfielder or as a central striker, making him a useful versatile option for Cardiff.

The Welsh club clearly see this as an investment, with the young winger likely to have a high sell-on value if he does well for Cardiff.

But Murphy will need to iron out the inconsistencies in his game if he is to succeed in the top division.
