Norwich City have have made an offer to sign Stuttgart defender Matthias Zimmermann, according to German news outlet ZVW.

The 25-year-old linked up with Stuttgart’s reserve team in 2015, and has gone on to make 31 league appearances for the senior side since making his debut last year.

Representing Germany at a range of youth levels, the defender has enjoyed an impressive football education, and could be available for transfer this summer with just a single year remaining on his current deal.

The full back, who can also play in midfield, was instrumental in the Stuttgart team who on the Bundesliga 2 title last year, and Crystal Palace are also interested in a deal for the impressive player.

Stuttgart are keen to tie the player to a new deal, but may consider selling this summer, with the club fearing that they could lose their prized asset on a free next year.

The Verdict: Norwich are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements having conceded 12 goals in their opening 5 games, and the addition of a quality young defender in Zimmermann would be a real coup for the Canaries.

Farke will hope to use his links to German football to secure a deal, and convince the player that his future lies in the second tier of the English game.
