Norwich City are ready to offer free agent Steven Fletcher a contract in a potential £35,000-a-week deal, according to the Sun via the Nottingham Post.
He has been a free agent since his release from Sunderland this summer, and with Sheffield Wednesday ending their interest, Norwich are now the front runners for his signature.
Fletcher has plenty of experience and when at Wolves was their top scorer two seasons running in the Premier League, but has found life hard since his move to Sunderland.
He had a good first season scoring 11 goals but since then over the last three seasons, game time and goals have diminished leading to just 12 goals in 65 games.
Sunderland barely stayed up last year with the goals of veteran striker Jermaine Defoe keeping them up.
Fletcher was loaned out too French side Marseille where he scored twice in 12 games, not enough to convince them to sign him permanently.
Norwich are in need of goal scorers since their relegation from the Premier League.
Top scorer Mbokani returned to his parent club, Redmond has left for Southampton and Hooper was sold to Sheffield Wednesday.
With just Cameron Jerome up top, new strikers are needed and an experienced one like Fletcher would be useful at this level.
